With over two months to go to the opening of the 21st World Petroleum Congress, the Russian Organising Committee have received almost 2,000 delegate registrations and are on track to reach their minimum objective of 4,000 delegates. To ensure that the current wave of registrations continues, the Russian Organising Committee have exceptionally extended the deadline to register at the discounted rate for another two weeks until the 30th April

On September, 18, Call for Papers for the 21st World Petroleum Congress was closed. We have received about 2,000 abstracts from more than 60 countries. Thank you so much for your interest to the Congress!

"Advanced drilling and production technologies". Authors of paper and poster proposals selected for the 21 st World Petroleum Congress will be notified by December 2013.
On 25-28 June, 2013, in Moscow, the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the World Petroleum Council and the 55th anniversary of the Russian National Committee took part. There was one more significant date: start of the One Year Countdown to the opening of the 21st World Petroleum Congress, which will be held in Moscow next year.
Celebration of these three important dates was held as a part of «Mioge-2013» exhibition and the 11th Russian Petroleum and Gas Congress.
Russian National Committee of World Petroleum Council prepared an extensive program of celebration, which took place on the stand of RNC WPC in the central pavilion of the exhibition, as well as the reception dinner in honor of these three important dates in the «Volynskoe» Congress Park. Delegation of the World Petroleum Council, which included the President of the World Petroleum Council, Dr R. Bertani, Director General Dr. Pierce Riemer, and members of several national committees, came to Moscow to participate in these events.
On June 25, at the first plenary session, which opened the 11th Russian Petroleum and Gas Congress and was dedicated to the World Petroleum Council, Dr. Bertani and Director of the RNC WPC V. Kornev made presentations. The main topic of the session was «Responsibly energising a growing world», which is also the topic of the 21st World Petroleum Congress. Plenary session was followed by the press conference of World Petroleum Council, at which head of WPC answered reporters' questions.
On June 26, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 21st World Petroleum Congress A. Dvorkovich met the WPC delegation. During the meeting they discussed the process of preparation for the Congress. President of the World Petroleum Council Renato Bertani was satisfied with the progress of the ongoing work, and wished to see all of Russian oil and gas major companies, especially large ones, such as "Rosneft" and "Gazprom", among the participants of the Congress and World Petroleum Exhibition. On the same day, a meeting of the Youth Section of the World Petroleum Council took place, as well as the "Oil game", which was attended by students, graduates and young professionals. In the evening at the "Volynskoe" Congress Park a reception dinner in honor of the anniversary of the World Petroleum Council was held.
On June 27, the Executive Direction of the Organizing Committee of the 21st World Petroleum Congress held a briefing for the head of the World Petroleum Council and the representatives of the national committees, in which the comprehensive information on the progress of preparations was given.
On the last day in Moscow delegation of the World Petroleum Council had a tour in the "Metropol" hotel and together with the Organizing Committee of the 21st WPC decided to select it as a base hotel for the Congress
In June, 2013 World Petroleum Council is celebrating the 80th Anniversary, as well as the Russian National Committee is celebrating the 55th one. Also, there is one another point to celebrate – One Year Countdown till the beginning of the 21st World Petroleum Congress, the biggest and the most prestigious industry event. The celebration of these three important dates will take place on 25-27 June, in Moscow, while MIOGE 2013/ Russian Oil and Gas Congress in Expocentre.

- WPC 80th Anniversary Celebration at the Official Congress Gala Reception, dedicated to the WPC 80th Anniversary and RNC WPC 55th Anniversary, including the participation of WPC National Committees (26 June 2013)
- 21st WPC Briefing – One Year Countdown (Russian Organising Committee will also host a briefing for all National Committees on the preparations for the 21st World Petroleum Congress and provide an update on the programme)

On the 15th of May, 2013, at the House of Government of the Russian Federation the meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 21st World Petroleum Congress took place. It was headed by Deputy Prime Minister A. Dvorkovich. The meeting was attended by the top management of the largest oil companies in the country. The main topic of discussion was the preparation of the 21st WPC and participation of major oil and gas companies in the most global industry event.
Director of the Russian National Committee of World Petroleum Council Vladimir Kornev made a report on the progress of preparation for the congress, describing what has been done for today. Preparations are in full swing - the extensive program of the Congress is ready (it includes four major unit topics and forums, round tables and sessions of best practice); places in the best hotels of Moscow are booked for the delegates; "Crocus Expo" is choosen as a venue; a global promotional campaign is also in progress. At the moment Call for Papers for the Congress is open.
Due to the size, scale and prestige of the upcoming event, a meeting was held in a whole year in advance. As noticed the chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 21st WPC A. Dvorkovich, this event is a common deal of all russian oil companies and the government of the Russian Federation, as the international prestige of the country depends on the level of the Congress.
Russia won the right to hold the 21st WPC in a secret ballot of the World Petroleum Council in 2010 in Beijing, ahead the United States and Colombia on the number of votes. The Congress will be held in Moscow from 15 to 19 June, 2014. At the moment, most of the largest Russian and foreign oil companies have expressed the intention to participate or have already confirmed it.
Members of the Organizing Committee of 21 World Petroleum Congress took part in the Program Committee meeting, which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 14 -17 april in Hotel Royal Tulip. Director of Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council Vladimir Kornev made a presentation on the meeting. He spoke of the Congress preparation process and the main steps, which have been done in this direction.
