21st World Petroleum Congress

15 - 19 June, 2014, Moscow, Russia

Every three years at the World Petroleum Congress, the World Petroleum Council recognizes some of the most outstanding projects and innovations in the oil and gas sector with the WPC Excellence Awards (WPCEA). The objective of the WPC Excellence Awards (WPCEA) is to distinguish companies, institutions or any public or private organization (not individuals) engaged in the oil and gas industry for promoting or operating with high excellence standards. Companies can submit projects in two categories:

Technological Development and Social Responsibility

Over 100 nominated projects were reviewed by the independent judging panel in this cycle’s awards nominations. The Finalists in each category are:

The winners will be announced on Monday, 16th June, the first day of the 21st World Petroleum Congress, during the WPC Excellence Awards Ceremony by Vladimir Evtushenkov, Chairman of the Russian National Committee of WPC and Chair of Sistema.

All the projects selected by the judges will be showcased during the Congress on Monday 16th June 2014. The Social Responsibility Finalists will present their projects at the Social Responsibility Global Village, while the Technical Development projects will be available for review at the Digital Poster Plaza (HALL 13) from 15:00 to 17:00.

Each category will have two winners, one from an NOC or large business and the other to represent the work of small and medium size organizations. The following criteria have been taken into consideration when assessing the projects:

WPCEA on Technological Developments

  • Technological breakthroughs
  • Innovative applications of existing technologies
  • Cost effectiveness
  • Wide applicability for the petroleum industry
  • Proved or clearly demonstrable and sustainable results (long term)

WPCEA on Social Responsibility

  • Innovative and far-reaching social responsibility initiatives benefitting the community or environment
  • Commitment and involvement of management and employees
  • Cooperation with local communities and stakeholders and development of mutually beneficial relations
  • Feasibility
  • Wide applicability and reproducibility within the petroleum sector
  • Proved or clearly demonstrable long-term sustainable results

WPC Excellence Awards for Youth
With many excellent submissions received by young authors, the World Petroleum Council decided to acknowledge the importance of youth to the energy industry by rewarding the best young presenters of the Congress. The 21st World Petroleum Congress Organizing Committee is selecting the best abstracts submitted by young people under 35 from all papers and posters presented in the Congress Forums and will recognize them at the Awards.
