Excellence Awards

Every three years at the World Petroleum Congress, the World Petroleum Council recognizes some of the most outstanding projects and innovations in the oil and gas sector with the WPC Excellence Awards (WPCEA). The objective of the WPC Excellence Awards (WPCEA) is to distinguish companies, institutions, or any public or private organization (not individuals) engaged in the oil and gas industry for promoting or operating with high excellence standards.

Each category will have two winners, one from a NOC or large business and the other to represent the work of small and medium-size organizations. The following criteria have been taken into consideration when assessing the projects:

WPCEA on Technological Developments

  • Technological breakthroughs
  • Innovative applications of existing technologies
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Wide applicability for the petroleum industry
  • Proved or clearly demonstrable and sustainable results (long term)

WPCEA on Social Responsibility

  • Innovative and far-reaching social responsibility initiatives benefitting the community or environment
  • Commitment and involvement of management and employees
  • Cooperation with local communities and stakeholders and development of mutually beneficial relations
  • Feasibility
  • Wide applicability and reproducibility within the petroleum sector
  • Proved or clearly demonstrable long-term sustainable results

WPC Excellence Awards for Youth

With many excellent submissions received by young authors, the World Petroleum Council decided to acknowledge the importance of youth to the energy industry by rewarding the best young presenters of Congress. The 21st World Petroleum Congress Organizing Committee is selecting the best abstracts submitted by young people under 35 from all papers and posters presented in the Congress Forums and will recognize them at the Awards.
